Birdies

Birdies presents Poland as a personal, observed paradise—neither idyllic nor escapist, but lived, ambiguous, and real. The photographs resemble records left behind by an external observer, capturing found scenes and fragments of social interaction with detached precision. Shot mostly in dim monochrome light, the images hover between night and day, familiarity and estrangement. This paradise is shaped by voluntary migration within Europe: a place that is close, yet never fully one’s own. Paradise here is not a promise of harmony, but a space of attention—where the banal becomes uncanny, and belonging remains unresolved. What emerges is a paradise defined not by comfort or arrival, but by sustained presence and quiet dissonance.
