Konrad Koźmiński

With ghosts and souls

The research foundation upon which this project is based is the phenomenon of religious and cultural syncretism–the interpenetration and mutual influence of the Orthodox tradition and deeply rooted folk beliefs dating back to Thracian and Greek cultural layers, and Bulgaria, as an area particularly suited to the study of these processes, bears traces of centuries of overlapping meanings and practices. It is a world in which the sacred takes forms that are alternatives to institutional religious discourse, where sites of revelation coexist with places of hidden worship, and spiritual energy gathers where few would expect to find it–in hot springs, on roadsides, and in the homes of clairvoyants.

Konrad Koźmiński (1989 in Krakow, Poland) photographer, self-publisher, social activist. Student of the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic.
